Your gallbladder learned Quaga!

...and your body suddenly needs surgery.

Thanks, everybody, for the wonderful birthday messages.  Sadly, I spent my entire birthday (and the next three days afterwards) stuck in the hospital because I needed emergency gallbladder surgery.

So.....yeaaaaaaaaaah.

Yes, I know he passed away this morning.

He was the nicest man you could meet; and the first person I drew art for who thanked me for it.

I've gone through every tissue in the house since I got home.

Thank you, sir.

Comfortable silence...

...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Tumblr of sketchiness}...

Oh hai.

Yeah.

Um.

Yeah, I kinda dropped off the face of the internet, kinda, didn't I? Lots has happened. Changed jobs. Got talked into going back to school for a master's in Special Ed. Little Sis is getting married. Got sick of dealing with people. Found out that I'm getting old (and that my bloodwork shows it).

Did I mention I have no free time anymore?

So, yeah, sorry for the radio silence.  90% of my drawings these days are done at work in a small sketchbook (8"x5.5").  Post most of them to my Tumblr, since they're just black and white sketches for the most part.

I check my messages and respond to comments here, but that's about it.

Quick answers to some questions I keep getting.

I do not do requests. Particularly from people I do not know.  (Friends, on the other hand, get art chucked at their head at high velocity. Right, Zilla? :p)

I am considering opening for commissions, although seeing some other more awesome artists opening up (Like Joe England), I feel I'm not worth the money. I may reconsider this if asked.  (Seriously, though, he's f-ing awesome. Go, give him your monies).

No, I have no interest in talking about Moffat's Who. Shoo.

No, I will not draw your request. Bad troll.

If you see my art for sale anywhere without me mentioning it here.... let me know, please? I found some of my old Tintin/DW art on red bubble a while back.  This made me a grumpy old art monkey.

So yeah, I live!  Really!  Finally settling into my new job, helping out with Button Me Up! (who will be selling my buttons and jewelry at AnimeNext this weekend), and dealing and moving on from a series of tragic losses in my family.

I have been drawing, I swear!  If you haven't guessed, the movie reminded me of my childhood love of Tintin, but I swear to god I've been drawing other things too!  Look at my tumblr!  Lots of happy things!  ....And sad things too.  Oh dear.

Also, if you want a laugh, please read my exchange with a deranged Tintin art thief here: comments.deviantart.com/4/2231…

This is why I'm not on deviantart so much anymore.  Because someone handed out 'bath salts' to all the newbies.

I give up.

So, uh, how you doing?

Things, they are a changin'

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 27, 2011, 7:07 AM
...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Tumblr of sketchiness}...

Last journal was a bit of a low note, wasn't it?

A lot of things have happened since I last posted here.

Number one on that list?  I got a new job.  At a museum I love. (Hint, there's a comic I've drawn about the museum in my gallery).

Number two on that list was that I had my second show, to rousing success.  Thanks to everyone who came out and saw my ceramic work, or purchased a piece.

Number three on the list is I'm at the moment trying to get back into the habit of drawing once a day to center myself and keep my progress going.  Most are going up on my Tumblr, but I may put some here as well.

So 2012?  It has some new adventures going for it.  Anime Boston, Otakon, and other shows will be in the works.

I'm so very glad.

But I want to let you all know I like talking to folks, and am always happy to answer questions or give suggestions (or take advice- one never stops learning).

Let's see what the future holds.

What I'm up to.

So, you may notice I'm only on sporadically.  This is for a myriad of reasons.

One, due to restructuring, I lost my job, and am now in the midst of reevaluating my career and throwing myself at the job job market.  On top of that, Wiki, my hedgehog has cancer, and doesn't have long to live.  So I'm spending a lot of time with her.

But more importantly, I've been moving to more towards my ceramic work, and will be having my second show in December.  I've spent the last three months throwing hard to get my stock up for it.  Most of the drawing I'm doing these days are for the button company I work for, ButtonMeUp, with snapesgirl34  Soon you'll be able to buy more of our buttons through etsy and our websites.

I'm posting some art on my tumblr, with more sketchiness and working on ideas. There's been some movement to get back into working on my own comic, so there may be some announcements soon.

So I'm here, just not all that often, and I will try update some more.

Lastly, Wiki the hedgehog was featured on the Rachel Maddow show!

Since quite a few people have asked why I am seriously skeeved out by the direction of Doctor Who, let me leave you with this quote:

"There's this issue you're not allowed to discuss: that women are needy. Men can go for longer, more happily, without women. That's the truth. We don't, as little boys, play at being married - we try to avoid it for as long as possible. Meanwhile women are out there hunting for husbands.

The world is vastly counted in favour of men at every level - except if you live in a civilised country and you're sort of educated and middle-class, because then you're almost certainly junior in your relationship and in a state of permanent, crippled apology. Your preferences are routinely mocked. There's a huge, unfortunate lack of respect for anything male." -Stephen Moffat

Yeah, we've entrusted a show watched by children to someone who actually thinks this seriously.  Someone who almost didn't hire Karen Gillan because he thought she looked "dumpy" until he saw those 'great legs of hers' (ever wondered why she was a kiss-o-gram girl, in miniskirts?).

I can only turn my brain off for so long before I see his attitude pervading into the program.  A girl is at fault when a man get's distracted by the way she dresses (funny, that's the same reasoning the man who raped a friend of mine said afterwards), a girl needs to be married off, because they're clingy.... women only ever do things because of men.

Look, Doctor Who has never been perfect, and there have always been issues.  But it's never been stated so openly and nonchalantly before.

Buttons for a Cause: Charity buttons to help Japan

Journal Entry: Sun Mar 20, 2011, 8:21 PM
...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Livejournal ramblings}...

(reblogged from snapesgirl34, my partner in crime)

Help Japan, buy the limited edition charity buttons here: www.etsy.com/shop/Buttonmeupbu…

As you all know, on March 11th, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake shattered thousands of lives on Japan. As of today, the death toll has reached over 8,000 people, with up to 15,000 people missing and over half a million without homes. Furthermore, the Fukushima nuclear plant is dealing with radiation leaks that could contaminate the nearby area further and put more lives at risk.

In cooperation with Beyond Victoriana, Button Me Up will be selling special limited-edition buttons to raise money for the international aid organization Shelterbox to help provide for the devastated survivors of this mounting tragedy. Shelterbox is an international aid organization that provides aid supplies to people in the wake of disaster.

Help Japan Charity Buttons by snapesgirl34

Each of these limited edition buttons costs a mere $2 each. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of all profits made from the sale of these buttons will go toward Shelterbox. There are three different button options to choose from, each incorporating an aspect unique of Japanese culture. The moon bunny was designed by :iconkrazikupo: and :iconsnapesgirl34:, the helping hands were done by myself, and the steampunk sakura was done by :iconsnapesgirl34: for Beyond Victoriana.

In addition, we’re not just doing online sales–from now until the end of Labor Day weekend, SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2011, these limited edition buttons will be sold at various steampunk-related events and north east anime conventions. Contributions will be made directly to Shelterbox throughout the summer.

Since this will be a community effort, everyone deserves to be recognized for their contribution. When you purchase a button you have the option of including your name as part of Beyond Victoriana‘s Rising Phoenix Circle. The Rising Phoenix Circle is a spot where we can express our goodwill in thanks to the generosity of the steampunk community and spotlight these special donors. Please leave a comment or send me a note when you purchase with the name you would like to be listed under to be included in the Circle. If you do not leave a comment I will assume you wish to remain anonymous. When buying in-person, please let me know if you want to be added to the Circle.

Moreover, every donor will earn a chance to win a special prize pack, featuring autographed books, prints & more. Let me know if you wish to be included in the raffle.

Donors do NOT have to have their name displayed as part of the Rising Phoenix Circle in order to enter the giveaway. Donors do NOT have to enter the giveaway either. The Rising Phoenix Circle and additional raffle pack are gestures of goodwill to express our gratitude for buying a button toward our cause, and donors are under no obligation to participate in either. Giveaway winners will be announced after the end of the fundraising period on September 5th, 2011.

Check out our partner, Beyond Victoriana's website to learn more and get updates: beyondvictoriana.com/2011/03/2…

In the meantime, buy a button.
Wear it with pride.

Quick update: it looks like I will be attending/selling at AnimeBoston this year, barring any natural disaster/sudden moves.

Since this time I actually have some time to prepare, I'd to know what people would be interested in from me.

The last 40 copies of the doujin we managed to find?
A new Yin & Yang comic book?
Pottery?
Badges?
Pins?
Masks?
...Hedgehogs?

Commissions and sketches will be par for the course.

Also as a quick note, I have offered a character drawing of any fandom as part of the Help Haiti auction: community.livejournal.com/help…

Wondering where I went to?

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 23, 2009, 7:13 AM
...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Livejournal ramblings}...

...Sometimes, so do I. Heh.

No, for the past year I've seen a dramatic shift in my approach to art and how it plays in my life- I've begun teaching again, for instance- and DeviantArt's focus and movement away from being an art site (Let's face it, it's not really that anymore) have led me to reassess what I want posted on here.

So I've been just trying to get back into the swing of drawing for fun, and that means a lot of the stuff I'm creating is just sketches and line drawings and brain junk, the artwork's more suited for a journal than finished work here.

So, yeah, I created an art blog ----> jesidres.dreamwidth.org

And that's where I've been for the last month and a half or so.  Again, mostly sketchwork and doodles, but fun.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm still here, just...not as much, so I will get any messages you might leave me.  I just don't know when I'll put stuff up here- particularly since this place really isn't about art so much anymore.

Also, since I last posted, I've had my computer die in a firey pit of screen-death, found out the old scanner doesn't work with Vista, started doing more graphic design work, hunted dinosaurs with bows and arrows, gotten on twitter, and generally been a nuisance to the world at large.

Reduced presence at Otakon

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 14, 2009, 8:55 PM
...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Livejournal ramblings}...

It's a bit disappointing, but with my health and job issues this spring, combined with my mother's surgery this week, my time at Otakon is going to be severely curtailed.  I hope to make it to the Doctor Who photoshoot, at the very least, but this this been a difficult year for my group and none of have had the time commit to the con that we'd like.

...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Livejournal ramblings}...

Wow- you turn your back for a minute and suddenly you're hit with a calendar full of happenings!

Stopped by briefly at AnimeBoston to help out friends and just generally be a nuisance, and get a few ideas about what's shaking the nation.  One wiff of the Otafunk, however, seems to have made me sick, so I didn't really do much at the con besides have fun in the Artist Alley (even if the desudesu crowd was annoying as ever).

It's only just made me realize Otakon is around the corner.  ACK.

Nevermind the new gallery opening, getting ready for the community onslaught that comes with Harvard graduation, roadtrips and the Dragon Boat festival and...and....

Oh, that's my brain leaking out my ear.

I've gotten two commissions done, so I will be contacting those folks tonight with their drawings.

Lastly, Otakon's around the corner!  What would you like to see at auction?

Spring's brought out some craaaaaazy people here in Allston- the college kids are now more willing to take their time to carouse down our street- and also some concerns.  Several long standing businesses have closed, making us wonder what that means for our neighborhood.  But only time will tell.

I am excited, because this year my birthday falls on Sakura Matsui at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens this year.  I'll be pushing around my friend Steph, who's had major surgery this year, and having fun.  (Hopefully we will not end up drinking $300 worth of alcohol at Ninja, though)  I really hope this year doesn't have the large group of bad cosplayers, though; last year they ended up pushing people out of the way and being way too loud throughout the gardens, staging mock battles.  Save it for the cons, peeps.

...{ Tegaki E sketches and silliness | Livejournal ramblings}...

Since the museum's Festival is over, I know I have a bit of spare time and a bit more creative juice to spare, and while I hammer out this year's prints and auction pieces, I'm going to open myself up for commissions- Just quickie ones, though, as with the Studio Sale and Art Show coming up, I won't be able to spend the 10 hours needed on a color piece or a full scene.  (There also may be a special print project in the works, but it's vague and hush hush at the moment, so I can't say too much).

Prices are as follows:

(Everything is B&W pencil sketches unless otherwise noted)

Chibis- $5

Character (Portrait and Busts)- $10

Character (Full figure)- $15-$20

I'll put up limit of 5 commissions at the moment, but if my schedule changes, I will alter the number accordingly.

Also- as some of you noticed, I broke down and got twitter.  I'm still getting the hang of it, but it's mildly amusing.  see the bottom of my front page for details.
