What happens to a city where the steam it runs on is it's own worst enemy?
Inspired quite a bit by the stories of the Great Smog of London, and wondering how a steampunk city might adapt to the horrible pollution choking it. Also an attempt at a dynamic pose that was not a case of a broken spine.
I really loved this drawing. It captures the essence of Steampunk. What really makes it amazing is how it shows a world where a society is forced to adapt to a change that potentially can kill them; those who could not adapt would end up paying a tragic price. This piece truly shows the dangers of taking something for granted and paying the price for it. The overall piece clearly shows someone's view of an apocalypse as well as a dark theme to go along with it too. The color scheme also ties into the theme too. An Excellent Job!
The thing about Steampunk is that it retains the very sharp social and class divides of Victorian/Edwardian England. So the rich people (the ones who could change the rules and fix the pollution) deal with the problem by moving out of the city and you have a situation, as shown in your picture, where the ordinary folks who can't afford to move out have to adapt.
Oddly enough, this reminds me of a Kim Possible picture I saw on this site a while ago. Of course, one crusading redhead perched on the side of a skyscraper is reminiscent of another, isn't she? I like the dress though - practical yet gothic, just what any Steampunk heroine needs!
