One of the first original characters I posted here on deviantart was a superhero/fantastical creature known as Neon Spider. She was a culmunation of my growing reinterest in western comics (namely Nightwing and the DC universe) and the new series of Ghost in the Shell (The Stand Alone Complex series, still one of my favorite animes).
I began redesigning her under my artist block that started 2 weeks ago (Sorry, everyone!) As she was sketched, she gained a compatriot, but he has yet to surface as anything more than a rough sketch on looseleaf: Japanese Rock band lionesque hair, and sleeves that spiral out into manipulated fabric (think House of Flying daggers style manipulation, but at the sleeve ends and not from the side.
But she came back in a whole new way. Gone is the urban soldier look, in its place a sleeker, sexier look, with her name not only coming from her mysterious glowing fibers, but symbol on her outfit- eight legs of a neon spider. Also, my glowing technique is a lot better- partially helped by a tablet and better photoshop control. This is part of the reason I hesitate to upgrade just yet (probably when I can afford a new computer system).
The pose gives a greater understanding on the character herself, how dependant she is on her web. While I'm pretty sure the girl started as a superhero in my mind, I now see her as someone who only looks out for herself- cradling her desires in her glowing threads. Not a single bit of her is touching a solid surface, and with a twist of her fingers and figure, she'd stand on her threads and walk across the midnight sky.
Her threads fade into nothing after an hour or so, so her path can be seen behind her as she dangles in her urban jungle.
Yup officially nuts- and this stupid artblock is crushing my fingers!
Who would like to see this in wallpaper format?
Nice costume design and all, a definite fav
Very, very pretty, too. :applauds:
